Donald Lee Schmidt

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Donald Lee Schmidt. He passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on the morning of November 26, 2022, at his home at Serenity House Assisted Living in Denver, Colorado. Donald is survived by his daughter Jill Schmidt-Love and her husband, Derek; his son Brady Schmidt and his wife Catrina; and three grandchildren: Braden Love, Nathan Love, and Madelyn Schmidt. Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Marie Schmidt; his parents, Carl and Paula Schmidt; his siblings: Irene Trenary, Erwin Schmidt, Carl J. Schmidt, and Dean Schmidt; and by Brady’s first wife, Stephanie. Donald was born in Sidney, Nebraska on January 26, 1939, and moved to Denver, CO in his early ‘20’s. He had a long and distinguished career at Public Service Company of Colorado, retiring in 1994 at the age of 55. He was active in his local union, serving as a Union Steward and playing an instrumental role in the union’s growth and success. He served as a youth baseball and football coach, and had a lifelong passion for the promotion of individual dignity and equal rights for all. Donald was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, godfather, and friend, whose life in recent decades revolved around his love for his grandchildren. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him. We are planning a Celebration of Life for dad to happen some time in June, 2023 - details will be forthcoming soon.
