David Andrew Jones (known to many as Dave) lost his battle with lung cancer on Saturday, April 24, 2021, and peacefully entered the eternal life from the comfort of his home in Broomfield, Colorado. He was born on July 29, 1951, in Port Chester, New York, to Robert Jones and Wendy Roth. On September 26, 1995, he married Lorraine Jones (his tropical princess, he called her) in the Philippines and became a father to their son, Nathan Jones, on May 13, 1999.
Dave served 4 years in the United States Army and was a federal government employee for 43 years. When he retired in February 2021 from the Department of Justice Environment and Natural Resource Division as Administrative Officer for the Denver Field Office, he had been in the employ of the federal government for a total of 47 years.
Dave was an avid mountain climber, hiker, and backpacker; often going off on solo climbs and hikes, making his mother sick with worry. He was a voracious reader, a well-traveled man. He was known for his incredibly quick wit, dry sense of humor, and vast knowledge of so many things.
Dave is survived by his wife, Lorraine Jones; his children, Heather Sword and Nathan Jones; his grandchildren, Dean Sword and Cullen Sword; and his sisters, Casey Berner, Barbara McCullough, and Patti Brohard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Jones and Wendy Roth.
An informal memorial service honoring Dave’s life is being held on Sunday, May 2, at 11:30 a.m. at the Jones residence in Broomfield, Colorado, followed by a celebration of life gathering in said residence to share memories of Dave.
