Colbie James Allen, beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend, and devoted public servant, passed away at the age of 54. Born on August 15, 1970, in Wheatridge, Colorado, Colbie was known for his enormous heart, contagious laugh, and unwavering dedication to others.
Colbie devoted his career to service and community, beginning as an EMT/Paramedic before joining the Broomfield Police Department in 2002, where he served with distinction until 2021. Throughout his career, he held numerous roles including Patrol, Civil Unit, and Special Operations in Flatiron Services and Traffic. His professionalism and compassion earned him multiple commendations from both the police department and the community he served.
His outstanding career was marked by significant achievements, notably receiving the Medal of Bravery on October 18, 2019. Colbie excelled in every position, earning expert awards in firearms accuracy, driving, and motors. He was deeply committed to community service, frequently recognized for going above and beyond—whether assisting families during arrests, providing diapers and milk to citizens in need, showing extraordinary compassion, changing tires, or simply being a comforting presence in challenging times.
Colbie shared his wisdom and experience generously as a Master Police Officer (MPO), Field Training Officer (FTO), member of SWAT, and as a respected Krav Maga instructor. He was a dedicated mentor, deeply invested in guiding and teaching young people who crossed his path.
An avid outdoorsman, Colbie loved hunting, jeep adventures in the mountains, and tinkering—always fixing, building, and lending a helpful hand to friends and family.
Colbie’s generosity, kindness, and infectious laughter left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He will be profoundly missed by his family, colleagues, and countless friends who considered him family.
Colbie’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved daughter Shelby (Dan) Huss and cherished grandchildren Hollis and Haelyn Huss; his sisters, Melissa (Jim) Plane and Suzette Allen; and his parents, Maurice and Karen Allen. His bond with his family and his faithful dog, Jo, brought him endless happiness.
