Native Colorado resident Charlotte Marie Bartolo, 82, passed away peacefully in her home in Westminster, Colorado on July 22, 2022. At her request, no service will be held.
Charlotte Marie Bartolo (Char, Carlota) was born June 16, 1940 in Trinidad, Colorado to Jess and Celina Ortez. In her youth she discovered the first two of many passions in her life, nursing and travel. While attending high school she volunteered as a Nurses Aide at a local hospital where she discovered her passion for nursing. Her passion for travel was born from the stories her father shared of countries he visited for work. After she graduated from Central High School in Pueblo, Colorado in 1957 her travels began when she moved to San Francisco, California where she fell in love with the ocean, sourdough bread, and seafood. After spending a few years there, she moved back to Pueblo, Colorado to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.
She attended college while working as a CNA at a local hospital where she met her future husband Joseph M. Bartolo, whom she married January 18, 1968. Charlotte and her growing family moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1973 and then settled in the small town of Broomfield, Colorado in 1975 where she raised her children. She went on to earn her degree as a Registered Nurse while working full time at Boulder Community Hospital where she spent the next 30+ years, rising to the rank of Charge Nurse before retiring.
Charlotte was known for her thirst of knowledge, love of music and dancing, passion for genealogy, traveling and her rose garden. She was constantly consuming information from books, magazines, radio, television, and her favorite blogs. She enjoyed music from various genres and adored dancing with her husband, and in later years shared her love of dance by taking lessons with her children. Her quest to find her ancestry took her on a journey to the depths of dusty church archives, interviews with distant relatives and sifting through a mountain of genealogy books. After years of painstaking research, she traced her heritage back to Spain in the 1400’s. Her travels took her to many locations in the U.S. and abroad. Her favorite trip was visiting Spain, enjoying the cuisine and touring some of it’s beautiful castles. After retirement, her rose garden became her passion, growing and caring for over 45 different varieties. She could be found most afternoons relaxing and enjoying her beautiful garden.
Charlotte is survived by daughter, Tracy Rogers; son Scott (Juliette) Bartolo; daughter Cheri Bartolo; daughter Christy (Larry) Wilson; son Michael Bartolo; son Anthony (Rebecca) Bartolo; along with 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; three siblings and many nieces and nephews.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents Jess and Celina Ortez; husband Joseph Bartolo (m.1968-1994); brother Robert Ortiz; daughter Michelle Bartolo; and granddaughter Erica Rogers.
