On November 26, 2023, Charles Douglas Moriarta, son of Dr. Webster Merchant Moriarta and Eloise Ann Moriarta, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home in Lafayette, Co. Born April 27, 1937 in Saratoga Springs, NY, Doug was a lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs before moving to West Chester, PA and Lafayette, CO in retirement.

He graduated from Saratoga Springs High School and attended Washington and Lee in Lexington, VA and Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva, NY before beginning a lifelong career as a chef. He worked for numerous Capital Region hotels and restaurants including the Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs, NY where he met his wife, Jo-Ann Foley Moriarta, and long tenures as Executive Chef for the Queensbury Hotel in Glens Falls, NY and the Americana Hotel in Colonie, NY. He also owned and operated Moriarta’s Pizza in Schuylerville, NY for many years with his family. His skills as a chef allowed him to serve the community by cooking for various local charities and ended his career at Mazzone Hospitality.

He is survived by his wife, his 5 daughters Marcia Moriarta, Anne Moriarta, Courtney Moriarta, Jennifer Moriarta, and Amy Moriarta; 8 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents Webster Merchant Moriarta and Eloise Ann Hawkins, and siblings, Eloise Moriarta Bowers, and David Peter Moriarta.

Doug was an avid fan of both the NY Yankees and NY Giants, loved music and travel, and was a dear and beloved uncle and grand-father. A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2024 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Donations in Doug’s memory can be made to Shelters of Saratoga.
