Carey Hume was born on December 19th 1955 in Birmingham, Michigan to Majorie and John Hume. She was a quintessential middle child, embracing a competitive spirit and rebellious attitude. Early in life Carey developed a love for music, spending her allowance on albums and attending rock shows as soon as she was able. She left Michigan to attend college at the University of Colorado where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in journalism. While attending school at CU Boulder, Carey met some of her life-long friends and helped put on rock shows through the Program Council. When she spoke about her time with Program Council you could feel her excitement and passion for all things music. Carey met her husband Robert (Bob) Perkins, while participating in a dart league. They had two children, who she is survived by, Justin Hume and Jamie Perkins. She took pride in raising her children and growing relationships with her three stepchildren (Zurii, Sara, and Jeremy). Carey and Bob shared a deep connection based in humor and respect during their time together. Bob unfortunately passed away unexpectedly in 2005, altering life’s path drastically. Carey retuned to the workforce and served as a supervisor for a scholastic testing company. She always embraced an opportunity for new adventures, taking last minute road trips with her close friend Jean during college, exploring cities in Europe, and visiting far away beaches. Carey rescued many animals throughout her years and loved them like any other family member. She loved her family and friends fiercely and was always willing to lend an ear or provide support to those around her. Over the past year she experienced medical complications and despite her best effort to overcome them it was a fight she could not win. Carey departed this world on April 30th 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, CO surrounded by her children and close friends.
Details regarding her memorial service will be updated as soon as possible.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to the Boulder Humane Society from which Carey rescued most her furry family members.
