Bruce Edward Custer passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at the age of 74, with his family at his bedside.

Bruce was a loving father, devoted husband, and doting grandfather and great-grandfather. He took great pride in his work and always kept in touch with those he worked with. He had an incredible ability to make friends wherever he went and loved to share memories from his life. Bruce could make even the toughest moments lighter with his humor and always brought a smile to those around him.

He had a deep love for music, which he proudly passed on to his children. His favorite artists were The Beatles and Paul McCartney. Everyone who knew Bruce also knew his love of sports, especially football. His favorite teams included the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, and especially Ohio State. He was often seen wearing shirts and hats that matched the team he was supporting that day.

Bruce also enjoyed antiquing and collecting, with his favorite place to visit being Father Time Antiques in Duluth, Minnesota.

He is survived by his four children, Cynthia Shettel (Michael), Michelle Gladwell (Robert), Autumn Kovell, and Bruce Custer II; his eight grandchildren; and his two great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish his deep compassion and sharp humor.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Custer, and his parents, James and Dorothy Custer.

A funeral service and celebration of life will be held at a future date in Newton Falls, Ohio, where he grew up. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Meadow Brook Memorial Park in Warren, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
