Barbara J. Melton, a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away February 15th, 2025, after having lived a loving, full, and rewarding life.
Barbara was born March 18th, 1940, in Akron, Ohio to Lester and Kathryn Royer. She was the oldest of four children, having a brother and two sisters. She grew up in Ohio, with an adventurous spirit and a desire to see the world. That desire led her at age 20 to California, where she met her former husband, moved to Michigan, and raised two children, finally settling in Colorado.
Barbara had a long and fulfilling career, moving from being an Administrative Assistant to creating a new Transitional Duty Department, something that she was incredibly proud to have done. During this time, she also resumed her love of adventure and began traveling, both in and out of the United States. She made numerous trips to Europe, Central America, and the Caribbean, as well as all around the Continental United States, taking every opportunity to see new places and spending her retirement fully engaged in her love of travel.
Barbara was most proud of her close relationships with her friends and family, frequently telling others all about her children and grandchildren, and was especially excited to have become a great grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and looked forward to any time she had with them. She also enjoyed spending time with her great nieces, often speaking of them with great love and affection.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Royer. She is survived by her children Melissa (Art Newsome) Melton and Steven (Sonja) Melton, three grandchildren - Kelley (Clayton) Roush, Alexandra (Stuart Johnson) Vasquez, and Anthony Melton, and one great-grandchild, Elowen Marie Johnson. She is also survived by her two sisters, Linda Royer and Gloria Sullivan, as well as niece Jennifer Sullivan and three great nieces, Kathryn, Evelyn, and Gwynnie Sullivan, in addition to the many friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Barbara will always be remembered for her generosity, love of family and friends, and the adventurous spirit, that helped her to see the world.
