Arnold E. Fields, a serviceman, a dad, a true friend, a sky-diver, a traveler, and a cat whisperer, died on February 20th, 2020, in Denver, Colorado. He was born in Asheville, NC, on February 4th, 1951, to Frank Wesley Fields Sr. and Bonnie Tilda Christopher Fields but considered Daytona Beach, FL, his home where the family lived since he was 14. He graduated from Mainland’s Senior High School in Daytona Beach in 1969.
After trying different things first, including running a small business, he enlisted in the US Army and served in various places. He especially enjoyed his eleven years spent in Germany for all the travels and sightseeing he was able to do and for the time he spent there with his son Jayme. There, on 10/15/1999, he married his second wife, Sasha Fields. After twenty years of service, in 2006, he retired from military at Fort Bliss, Texas, and moved his family that now included a daughter Tiana to Denver, Colorado.
Like many before him, he fell in love with Colorado mountains and natural beauty of the state, blue skies, and beautiful weather, enjoyed hiking, camping, motorcycle riding, and jumping with the parachute from the local dropzone. Freefalling was his favorite activity, and dropzone was his happy place.
But above all other things, Arnold’s first passion was raising his young daughter Tiana. Together they would spend days fishing, riding bicycles around the neighborhood, camping in the Colorado mountains, or just taking a road trip with no particular destination in mind. He was cheering for her at soccer practices, clapping the loudest at piano recitals, and even though he understood little, he always attended her Russian school performances. So when Alzheimer’s hit Arnold, Tiana was his light, his reason for pressing on, to fight and not to give up.
Arnold was a quiet, simple, and a very private person, a man of few words and of a big heart. He came to the aid of anyone who needed it and never expected for anything in return. He led a good, honest life and passed away peacefully following his courageous six-year battle with Alzheimer’s.
Arnold leaves behind many who loved his quiet, gentle personality including his daughter Tiana Valerie Fields (10/08/2004) and son Jayme Steven Fields (1/30/1977), his former wife and his closest friend Sasha Fields and her family, his sisters Helen Ducker of Ashville, NC, Margie Jaillette of Inverness, FL, Ruby Shoenfelt of Citrus Springs FL, brother Jack Fields of Palm Coast, FL and many nieces and nephews.
Arnold is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frank Fields from Hickory, NC and Ellis Fields from Daytona Beach, FL, and sister Elizabeth Fields from Ocala, FL.
A committal at Fort Logan National Cemetery honoring Arnold's life and military career will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 2:15 p.m. Please arrive no later than 2:00 p.m. and line your vehicle up at Staging Area "C", which will line up straight through (facing East) the "Funeral Entrance", located at 4400 W Kenyon Avenue, Denver, CO 80236.
