Alvera Wingate, 99, of Crystal Lake, died Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Gardens on Quail in Arvada, CO.
She was born April 16, 1924, in McHenry to Donald and Laura (Vasey) Hunter. She married Ray Wingate on Feb. 21, 1948, in Crystal Lake.
She graduated from McHenry High School in 1941. Her childhood was spent on various farms in the Woodstock, Bull Valley and McHenry area, from which her fondest memories were playing with her beloved sister Marie. Her adult life was focused on her family of seven children, fourteen grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was also a prolific reader and avid gardener who especially loved the overflowing flower beds of her beautiful backyard.
Survivors include four sons, David (Patricia) Wingate of Chrisman, Keith (Shirley) Wingate of Mahomet, Duane (Gail) Wingate of Rockford and Kevin Wingate of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Lynnette (Matt) Reinert of Arvada, CO and a sister, Marie Payne of Woodstock.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Wingate, her daughter Karen Frye, and her son Larry Wingate.
The visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm Saturday, October 14th at Scheider-Leucht- Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock.
Burial will be directly afterwards in McHenry County Memorial Park in Woodstock.
