Alan K. Parker of Arvada, Colorado passed away on October 5, 2023, at the age of 70 from ALS. He was a successful banker in Colorado financial institutions, leader in the Arvada community, active outdoorsman, family ensemble singer, and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Alan was born in Akron, Colorado, to Don and Alvera (Curry) Parker. In his early years he lived on the family farm northwest of Akron where they raised livestock and grew crops. The farm was sold in 1966, and a short time later the family moved to Greeley where Alan graduated from high school. Soon afterwards, Alan moved to the Denver Metro area and began his banking career at Arvada State Bank. His career in banking included lending and management roles at Colorado National Bank, US Bank, Foothills Bank, and Guaranty Bank. In 2015, he retired from City Wide Banks. He was dedicated and loyal throughout his career, including through difficult acquisitions, and took responsibilities in stride.
Alan loved the city of Arvada, and served in several leadership roles in the community. He brought his knowledge, integrity and caring nature to the Arvada Economic Development Association, Arvada Urban Renewal Authority, and Arvada Chamber of Commerce to name a few. He received the Manley Gray Distinguished Service Award in 2014 for his involvement in the Arvada Business Retention Committee. Alan also served on the Board of Directors and the finance committee at The Club at Rolling Hills.
Alan was a “man’s man” enjoying all the activities the outdoors provided. He specifically enjoyed target shooting, hiking, camping, and fishing in his younger years, as well as watching his son play sports. Golf and travel took over later in life. Alan self-proclaimed himself as a “jack-of-all-trades, master of none”. He was a project guy. He loved to build, repair, create, and was a darn good landscaper.
Alan was also a singer. His dad had been a self-taught musician and loved performing, especially gospel music. Alan joined his father, mother, brother, and sister-in-law to sing in the “Parker Quartet”. He had a beautiful voice and enjoyed playing the guitar.
Alan had one son, Jared, who brought him great joy. Jared and his wife Amy blessed Alan with two beautiful granddaughters, Ginny (8) and Josie (5). His granddaughters were the light of his life, while “Papa” was the girls’ favorite playmate and jungle gym.
In 1992 a mutual friend introduced Alan to his future wife Charlotte. They began dating in May of 1993 and married in March of 1997. Alan didn’t want to rush into anything! During their 30 years together, they enjoyed family time, fishing, camping, entertaining, golfing and traveling the world as a couple and with friends. Trips included sailing the Mediterranean Sea, Thailand, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica, Peru, South Africa, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, Israel, Egypt, and most recently Portugal.
Alan faced his recent ALS diagnosis bravely, passing away at home with his wife and son present. Alan was preceded in death by his father Don, mother Alvera, and brother Gary. Left to cherish his memory are his adoring wife, Charlotte, incredible son Jared, granddaughters Ginny and Josie and many dear friends. His bright legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at The Club At Rolling Hills, 15707 W 26th Ave, Golden, CO, 80401.
