On Thursday June 27, 2019, Vicki Lynn Shigley, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 70.
Vicki Lynn Shigley was born on December 18, 1948 in King City, MO to Cecil and Agnes Taff. Surviving siblings are Diane Cox, and Barbara Wrathall. She married the love of her life, Maynard A. Shigley on February 10, 1968. They raised a son and a daughter, Wayne A. Shigley, adopted from Vietnam and Brandi S. Shigley, adopted from the Philippines.
She and her husband owned a successful family security business, Sun Air Security Services, for 30 years. Vicki was the office manager and guru when it came to finances, technical knowledge, and scheduling security jobs for her husband. She and her husband worked closely in building their family business.
Vicki was very passionate about her embroidery work and was an active member of the Embroidery Guild. Everyone who saw her beautiful pieces of embroidery and other artistic work were in awe of her skills. In Spring 2018, Vicki took a creative embroidery class and completed her work for that class in October 2018. She chose a picture of her type of cancer cell as seen under a microscope, turning something so deadly into a beautiful work of art. She used silk roving and felted it to fabric, dyed rice paper and specialty threads. It was her interpretation and she was pleased and happy with the outcome. She said it was deadly beautiful. It hangs in her home today.
Vicki and her husband traveled and saw much of the world during their 51 years of marriage, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Thailand, Bali, Mexico and many parts of the United States. In December 2018, she and her family took a Caribbean Cruise to Cozumel, Belize, and Honduras. They had a wonderful and memorable time. This trip was very important to her as she wanted her family to have happy memories.
Vicki was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma (LMS), a rare and aggressive cancer, in December 2012. She became a strong advocate in helping others diagnosed with LMS. She attended various events to raise money to help find a cure. She began a support group, created a pamphlet, and joined another LMS support group. She made it her goal to educate others, proving to be a great source of knowledge and support for those diagnosed with LMS. This cancer did not define Vicki…Vicki defined it in the way she lived, educating others, and always staying strong through her battle. It did not take away her compassionate spirit or her wonderful sense of humor. She lived her life the way she wanted.
Vicki would like to be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a good daughter, sister and friend. Vicki’s life was well lived, full of creativity, kindness, adventure, love and so much light. Vicki had a compassionate spirit and it reflected in how she lived her life.
Vicki was preceded in death by her father, Cecil W. Taff, and recently her mother, Agnes V. Taff. She is survived by her husband, Maynard A. Shigley, her son and daughter, Wayne A. Shigley, and Brandi S. Shigley, her sisters Diane Cox, and Barbara Wrathall, several nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at the Lord of Hills Lutheran Church in Centennial, Colorado from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
