Jo M. McCall

Jo (“Jodee”) Mayo McCall, age 83, passed away in Louisville, Colorado on Thursday, March 7, 2019. 

Born September 8, 1935 in Sacramento, California, daughter of Joseph M. Mayo, Sr and Daisy L. (Keaton) Mayo.  Jodee spent many happy years in Hawaii, South Africa, Alaska and Colorado but by far her most favorite place to live was all her years in San Diego, California.  She began her career with the State of California as a typist until she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii and became a reservation agent for United Airlines.  It was in Hawaii that she met the love of her life, Edward “Mac” W. McCall and together they had 3 children.  She took several years off to raise her daughters and travel with her family, returning to the working world once her youngest daughter graduated from high school. With her outgoing personality she was a natural when it came to customer service, working for Cox Cable in San Diego as well as the Los Angeles Times, earning several awards for her top sales. She ended her career as the office manager of a local ballet studio in Rancho Bernardo, California.  Once she finally retired, she moved to Colorado to be closer to one of her daughters. 

Jodee majored in drama in college and had a love of old movies.  Cary Grant, Van Johnson, James Dean and Clark Gable were a few of her favorite leading male actors.  While there was nothing better than a good movie, she also loved live theater. Jodee and Mac were season ticket holders of San Diego’s Playgoers for many years and loved when the new Broadway series were released every year.  Family and entertaining were the center of her life…something that was passed down to her from her father.  

Jodee is survived by her two daughters, Tara and Trisha McCall, and her baby brother, Joseph M. Mayo, Jr. Jodee was preceded in death over 20 years ago by Mac.  (Her son, Tyrone, sadly was stillborn at birth.)

A celebration of Jodee’s life will be held this summer in San Diego for family and close friends.  More details will be shared later.
