Gloria M. Withers

Gloria Marie Withers, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 20, in Federal Heights, CO surrounded by her loving family.  Gloria was preceded in death by her oldest son David Owen Withers, by her youngest son Brian Keith Withers, and by her husband, Dean Owen Withers.

She is survived by her loving children: daughter Cheryl Fairbanks of Thornton, CO; daughter Carol Griffith of Bend, OR; son Douglas (Jill) of Erie, CO; daughter Lisa Withers-Hoffman (Tom) of Henderson, CO; grandchildren Travis, Jeremy, Ryan, Lacey, Nicholas, Tyler, Kaitlan, Brendan, Bodhi; and great-grandson Gavin. 

Gloria was born on August 5, 1934 in Emmeran, KS to Daniel and Catherine Weigel.  In 1954 while working for Western Electric in Wichita, Kansas, Dean Withers met Gloria Weigel on an elevator.  Gloria said she remembered that he was handsome and ornery, more ornery than she was.  They married on September 3, 1955 in Wichita, Kansas and began their journey together that would last almost 60 years and included raising six children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grand child.  Gloria and Dean moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1962 and began working at the world famous Broadmoor Hotel.  They spend the rest of their working and retirement years in Colorful Colorado and now will be together again in Fort Logan.

An energetic, charismatic, always upbeat and supportive mother, Gloria’s working career as a telecommunications equipment assembler and supervisor offered an appropriate challenge to her intellect and superb organizational skills.  Gloria enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren, but not on Denver Bronco football game days.  She was a very vocal, proud supporter, and critic of the three-time Superbowl Champs.  She was also an avid collector of John Elway memorabilia, including his autograph on a plain white piece of paper, which she cherished.  Gloria also enjoyed listening to music, whether it was polka music on Sunday afternoons while preparing fried chicken for supper, or classic rock while doing household chores at any time or day of the week.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018, 12:15 PM, Staging Area C at the Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 3698 Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, CO 80212.

A Celebration of Gloria’s life will be at Northgate Events Center following the cemetery, 3880 S. Lowell Boulevard, Denver, CO 80236. Please join family and friends for a time of sharing and remembering Gloria.
