Cynthia "Cindy" L. McConnell

Cynthia Louise (Allen) McConnell, 52, was born in Evanston, Illinois on October 7th, 1965 to Karla Louise (Johnson) and James Craig Allen.  Cindy was raised in Glenview, Illinois with her twin brothers, Robert and Craig. 

Cindy graduated from Glenbrook South High School in 1983.  She graduated from University of Iowa in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Cindy went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing from DePaul University in 1991.

She met her future husband, Joe, in Milwaukee Wisconsin in 1992.  They were married on May 22, 1993 in Glenview, Illinois.  They were blessed with their daughter Allyson on April 18, 1998.  They lived in Westminster, CO for 24 years.

Cindy was a pediatric nurse for 30 years. She worked in many different departments, ranging from oncology to ambulatory. Everyone who knew Cindy recognized her love and her passion for nursing and for the Children’s Hospital of Colorado where she worked for 25 years.

When she wasn’t working, Cindy loved to ski, golf, read, binge watch Pit Bulls and Parolees, partake in yoga, and spend time with her family and many friends. She loved chocolate, Mexican food, tulips and mushy Hallmark movies. She loved being outdoors and traveling. Cindy was the life of the party everywhere she went and had a special way of talking to people that made everyone feel included.

Her laugh and her smile were contagious and her beauty was mesmerizing. She was the kindest person you would ever meet and she cared for everyone. She was the most amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend that anyone could ever hope for. Everyone admired her resilience and bravery as she fought hard for her life.

Though our time with Cindy was all too short, she made the most of it by keeping her charm and humor until the very end. She will be greatly missed and it goes without saying that everyone who was touched by Cindy is better today because of her.

Cindy passed away on October 30, 2017.  She is survived by her husband Joe, daughter Allyson, her parents Karla (Spencer) and Jim (Pat), her brothers Robert (Amber), Craig (Roseanne), Rick (Tricia) and sister Tracy (Joseph), and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family has been working with the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation to set up a memorial fund in Cindy’s name. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to this fund. Link below:
