Audie Vigil of Henderson, CO passed at home peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Saturday afternoon, September 28, 2019. Born to Juan and Linda Vigil on May 18, 1971, he was raised in Berthoud CO. Audie graduated from Berthoud High School in 1989, he then served our country in the Marine Corps for 2 years and was medically discharged. After the military he attended college and obtained an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. He then attended the police academy. As a true lover of education, Audie was a life-long student. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and Master’s Degrees in Criminal Justice, Management for Homeland Security and Organizational Leadership. Audie married the love of his life, Sue (Huser) on June 6, 1998 and in 2001 they welcomed their prized son Zach. Audie loved his family and friends with his whole heart. Audie was a police officer for 16 years for the Commerce City Police Department where he served many roles his favorite of which was a School Resource Officer. After police work, he went on to his most passionate job of teaching. Audie cherished teaching. He had a big personality which allowed him to connect with and show compassion for his students. Audie loved sports, especially the Denver Broncos and UFC. In his life, he was always happy and lived life to the fullest. He was known as a fierce fighter, a loyal friend and a sincere soul. The last five years of his life he fought and beat Leukemia. Audie had three bone marrow transplants and was in remission. He had a very strong will and with the support of family, friends, and medical staff he was able to fight for his life every day. Audie did this with a positive attitude and sense of humor. His immune system was compromised, and his body was unable to keep up with all of the side effects from the treatments. Audie was feisty and fought the fight until the very end.
Audie is proceeded in death by his father, Juan Vigil. He is survived by his wife Sue, son Zach, mother Linda (Phebus) Vigil, brothers Jay (Fort Collins, CO) and Jeremiah (wife Georgia) (Phoenix, AZ.), sister Leatte (Ventura, CA), nephews Alex (wife Joelle) and Angelo, nieces, Shannon, Harley (Huser), Hunter (Huser) and Bailey. Many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to thank everyone who has supported “Audie Strong” through his 5 years of treatments. They would also like to thank the physicians and nurses at Presbyterian Saint Lukes and Colorado Blood Cancer Institute, Denver, CO for the care they provided Audie during his journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the “Audie Strong Go Fund Me Account” to help offset medical bills for the Vigil family.
