Thomas C. Knapp Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Thomas on July 11, 2026.

Thomas was a loving father, devoted husband, cherished son, brother, and loyal friend. To those who knew him, he was quiet by nature but wonderfully quick-witted, with a dry sense of humor that often caught people by surprise. He led with kindness and loved deeply and unconditionally. If you were fortunate enough to be one of his people, you never had to question where you stood in his heart.

Thomas's greatest joy and proudest role was being a father to his son, Miro. Some of his happiest moments were spent playing with toy cars on the living room floor, throwing balls in the yard, and racing down playground slides together—never caring if he looked like the biggest kid at the park. He especially treasured driving Miro to school, pointing out different cars and trucks along the way while singing Miro's favorite songs, The Wheels on the Bus and Have You Ever Seen the Rain. He also embraced his role in the lives of his stepsons, Liam and Zeke, offering them patience, encouragement, guidance, and unconditional love. The three boys were the center of his world, and the love he poured into each of them will continue to shape their lives for years to come.

Thomas shared an extraordinary love with his wife and best friend, Kajsa. She was his lifelong person, his greatest source of comfort, laughter, and unwavering love. Together they built a life grounded in friendship, hope, and a deep understanding of one another.

Thomas’s greatest joys were found in the simplest things. He had a silly love for girl-pop music and could often be found at the gym lifting weights to Call Me Maybe. At work, he was known to sing along to his favorite pop songs, much to the amusement of those around him. He found comfort in rewatching The Office, which became the soundtrack of countless evenings during Kajsa's pregnancy with their son, Miro. Long after those nights had passed, it remained one of his favorite places to find laughter and comfort. He never met a sour gummy candy or a Dr. Pepper he didn't like, and his family knew that if there were crumbs scattered across the counter in the morning, Thomas had visited the cupboards in the dark hours of the night.

Thomas had a rare gift for making people feel heard. Whether through a thoughtful conversation, a perfectly timed joke, or simply sitting quietly beside someone who needed company, he made others feel seen, understood, and accepted. He never sought the spotlight, yet his presence had a way of making others feel safe.

Thomas also faced the difficult challenge of addiction. He met that struggle with courage, determination, and hope, knowing that recovery is rarely a straight path. While addiction was one part of his story, it never defined who he was. He was defined by his love for his family, his compassion for others, his gentle spirit, and the ways he made people feel valued. It is our hope that by sharing this part of his story, we can honor his truth and encourage compassion for everyone facing similar battles.

Thomas leaves behind a family and community who will forever miss his wisdom, quick wit, gentle heart, and the little quirks that made him uniquely himself. While his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy lives in the love he gave so freely, the memories he created, and the lives he touched.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Kajsa; his son, Miro; his stepsons, Liam and Zeke; his parents, Beth and Tom Knapp; his sisters, Katie Fisher and her spouse, Adam, and their daughters, Matilda and Cece; Maggie Parsley and her spouse, Doug, and their children, Charlotte, William, and Sam; and Mollie Cason and her spouse, Adam, and their children, Annabelle and Ben. He also leaves behind his lifelong best friends, Barrett Nelson and Andrew Bruno, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Thomas was preceded in death by his close childhood friend, Jay Hendrickson, whose friendship remained a treasured part of his life.

We will miss Thomas's impromptu singing and smooth dance moves, the crumbs left behind after his late-night cupboard raids, watching him transform into a kid while playing with Miro, and sharing a cold Dr. Pepper and a bag of sour candy. These everyday moments, once so ordinary, have become the memories we will hold closest—gentle reminders of a man who loved deeply, laughed freely, and gave his whole heart to the people he loved.

A Memorial Service will be held on July 25, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at Stone Shelter, 1199 Flagstaff Summit Road, Boulder, CO 80302.

A special request: as we gather to celebrate Thomas's life, we invite you to share a memory of him.
